Federal Communications
Commission
Administrative Council for Terminal Attachments
Administrative
Council for Terminal Attachments (ACTA) is a private corporation
established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The
FCC's mission is to develop, disseminate and aid in the adoption
of technical criteria for telecommunications equipment. USmax was
engaged by ACTA to engineer a hosting platform that would fulfill
the business requirements of the corporation. As part of this effort,
USmax undertook a project to build-out its own network operations
center to accommodate a dedicated hosting platform for ACTA servers.
The effort revolved around assessing requirements, design and validation
testing, implementation, training and maintenance.
USmax undertook
a basic but effective approach to the implementation starting with
the development of a project plan that outlined salient milestones
and determined appropriate downtime and cutover timeframes. Following
planning, implementation took the form of building redundant servers
and placing these behind a supplementary firewall. The firewall
was configured with security, intrusion detection, and security
event analysis capabilities. Applications were integrated to the
servers and data restored.
Following successful
User Acceptance Testing, USmax performed a final transfer of live
data for final cutover. Standard Operating Procedures were drawn
up to support efforts such as tape backup verification and rotation
and virus updates. Follow-up activity has consisted of training
and maintenance of regular services on the platform.
